Ayurvedic physicians have researched the benefits of milk over the centuries and believe it to be particularly beneficial to children for healthy growth, women going through the menopause and older men to prevent osteoporosis. Milk can be beneficial for anxiety, stress and restlessness and can relieve hyperacidity and heartburn. We need to support the organic dairy farms not the run based on pharmaceutical drugs

Milk per se is not a "bad" food. What the greed driven dairy industry has done to it is bad.According to Ayurveda, milk is a complete food in itself and some of the ancient sages used to live on a diet of milk, fruits and vegetables. They are said to have lived very long and healthy lives, often up to 200 or 300 years. In Ayurvedic medicine, milk has been given the name Jeevani or "promoter of life".

@VUandChips Recently made the switch from vegetarian to vegan. Once you have the conviction -- my conviction comes from animal cruelty -- you want to learn about all aspects. The health aspects only make sense. We're the only species that drinks milk as adults -- and the milk of another species no less. See the documentary "Earthlings" .com or the shorter film "From Farm to Fridge." You really should SEE that way what you eat (or drink) makes it to your plate (or glass.)

@chrisperdicaro .. quite the contrary, majority of India's diet is no longer vegetarian. In efforts to 'westernize' their country/culture diet, along with many other things, have changed so much that it assimilates to American culture. You will find that increase in heart disease and cancer is congruent with their efforts to 'westernize' their culture, with the edition of food chains like: McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Dominos, Baskin Robbins, etc.

Basing your diet on starch? I think that's an awful idea! Why not leafy green vegetables and fruit instead?
